Explanation

the proverb is said of those who save suppliants; since at Hermione in the Peloponnese there was a sanctuary of Persephone and Demeter giving safety to those who fled there. Aristophanes mentions it in the Babylonians.

Ἀνθ’ Ἑρμιόνος

Explanation

εἴρηται ἡ παροιμία ἐπὶ τῶν σωζόντων τοὺς ἱκέτας· ἐπειδὴ ἐν Ἑρμιόνῃ τῆς Πελοποννήσου ἱερὸν ἦν Κόρης καὶ Δήμητρος, ἀσφάλειαν παρέχον τοῖς καταφεύγουσιν. Μέμνηται ταύτης Ἀριστοφάνης ἐν Βαβυλωνίοις.
