of those who deserve chastisement; inasmuch as the octopus, when caught, is beaten many times to make it tender.

Δις ἑπτὰ πληγαῖς πουλύπους πιλούμενος

ἐπὶ τῶν κολάσεως ἀξίων. Παρόσον ὁ πολύπους θηρευθεὶς τύπτεται πολλάκις πρὸς τὸ πίων γενέσθαι.
