Explanation

of cheap men deemed worthy of honour through some turn of fortune. Such too is the saying: "In want of resource, even Carcinus had a share of honour"; and "In faction, even the utter scoundrel had a share of honour"; and "Among the unmusical, even the lark sings more tunefully than the swan."

Ἐν δὲ διχοστασίῃ καὶ Ἀνδροκλέης πολεμαρχεῖ

Explanation

ἐπὶ τῶν εὐτελῶν τῶν διὰ περιπέτειάν τινα τιμῆς ἀξιουμένων. Τοιαύτη δὲ ἐστὶ καὶ ἡ λέγουσα· Ἐν γὰρ ἀμηχανίῃ καὶ Καρκίνος ἔμμορε τιμῆς. Ἐν δὲ διχοστασίῃ καὶ ὁ πάγκακος ἔμμορε τιμῆς. καί· Ἐν γὰρ ἀμούσοις Καὶ κορυδὸς [κύκνου] φθέγγετ’ [ἀοιδότερος.]
