Proverb

Through Syloson, a wide land

Explanation

Syloson the Samian was a friend of Darius king of the Persians, and through him received the lordship of Samos after Polycrates' death. But since he ruled bitterly and harshly, the greater part forsook the island and migrated. Whence the proverb.
