said of those choosing the worse instead of the better. Transferred from those who, inexperienced, take hold of the hot end of the spit. Sophocles mentions it.

Τὸ θερμὸν τοῦ ὀβελοῦ

Explanation

ἐπὶ τῶν ἀναιρουμένων τὰ χείρονα ἀντὶ τῶν κρειττόνων εἴρηται ἡ παροιμία. Μετενήνεκται δὲ ἀπὸ τῶν ἀπείρως δρασσομένων κατὰ τὸ πεπυρωμένον τῶν ὀβελίσκων. Μέμνηται ταύτης Σοφοκλῆς.
