Explanation

of cheap, worthless men. The Aegieans of Achaea, having defeated the Aetolians, asked the Pythia which of the Greeks were the best; she answered, "But you Aegieans are neither third nor fourth."

Αἰγιέες οὔτε, τρίτοι οὔτε τέταρτοι

Explanation

ἐπὶ τῶν εὐτελῶν καὶ μηδενὸς ἀξίων. Οἱ γὰρ Λἰγιεῖς οἱ ἐν Ἀχαίᾳ νικήσαντες Αἰτωλοὺς τῆν Πυθίαν ἐξηρώτων, τίνες εἰσὶ κρείττονες τῶν Ἑλλήνων· ἡ δὲ εἶπεν, Ὑμεῖς δ’ Αἰγιέες οὔτεʹ τρίτοι οὔτε τέταρτοι.
