Explanation

of fools. Acco was a woman notorious for foolishness, who, they say, used to look in a mirror and address her reflection as if it were another person; whence the verb "to acco-ize" (akkizesthai, "to play coy / play the fool") is said to come from her.

Explanation

ἐπὶ τῶν μωραινόντων. Ἡ γὰρ Ἀκκὼ γυνὴ γέγονεν ἐπὶ μωρίᾳ διαβεβοημένη, ἥν φασιν ἐςοπτριζομένην τῇ εἰκόνι ὡς ἑτέρᾳ διαλέγεσθαι· ἔνθεν καὶ τὸ Ἀκκίζεσθαι περὶ ταύτην λελέχθαι.
