The pestle grows

Explanation

Chrysippus says it is used of those who do not grow but remain small. The proverb is also said of [those who remain] small. For the pestle is small and round.

Δοῖδυξ αὔξει

Explanation

ἐπὶ τῶν μὴ αὐξανομένων φησὶν ὁ Χρύσιππος, ἀλλὰ καὶ [ἐπὶ τῶν] μικρῶν μενόντων εἴρηται ἡ παροιμία. Ὁ γὰρ δοῖδυξ μικρός ἐστι καὶ στρογγύλος.
