Proverb

It lies on the knees of the five judges

Explanation

proverbial, equivalent to "they are in others' power." The proverb is said because five judges judged the comic plays, as Epicharmus says. It is composed in imitation of the Homeric "It lies on the knees of the gods." Since the judges held on their knees what is now written in tablets.
