Thamyris is mad
English
Proverb
Thamyris is mad
Explanation
the proverb is said of those who, with full understanding, seem to act unaccountably. Thamyris, surpassing many in beauty, was the first to fall in love with males. Practising kithara-singing, he challenged the Muses, agreeing that, if he were judged the better, he might lie with all of them; but if he lost, he should be stripped of whatever they wished. The Muses, getting the upper hand, deprived him both of his eyes and of his kithara-singing.
Greek
Proverb
Explanation
