Explanation

they say the Thracians, defeated by the Boeotians at Coronea, agreed on a truce of five days; but coming upon the Boeotians by night, they killed some and took others alive. The Boeotians being indignant, the Thracians replied that they had agreed on a truce for the days, not the nights.

Explanation

φασὶ τοὺς Θρᾶκας ἡττηθέντας ὑπὸ Βοιωτῶν [περὶ Κορώνειαν,] καὶ σπεισαμένους σπονδὰς πενθημέρους θέσθαι· νυκτὸς δὲ ἐπιγενομένους τοῖς Βοιωτοῖς, τοὺς μὲν ἀποκτεῖναι, τοὺς δὲ ζωγρῆσαι. Ἀγανακτούντων δὲ τῶν Βοιωτῶν, εἰπεῖν τοὺς Θρᾷκας, ὅτι τὰς ἡμέρας οὐ τὰς νύκτας ἐσπείσαντο.
