The Carpathian (and) the hare
Explanation
proverb. Because there were no hares in their land, they imported them themselves; and they multiplied so much that the corn and the vines were ruined by them. Archilochus uses this proverb.

Explanation
παροιμία, » Καρπάθιος τὸν λαγών. « Διὰ γὰρ τὸ μὴ εἶναι λαγὼς ἐν τῇ χώρᾳ, ἐπηγάγοντο αὐτοί· καὶ τοσοῦτοι ἐγένοντο, ὥστε τὸν σῖτον καὶ τὰς ἀμπέλους αὐτῶν ὑπ’ αὐτῶν βλαβῆναι. Ὁ γοῦν Ἀρχίλοχος ταύτην τὴν παροιμίαν ἔφη.
