Explanation

this man had many flocks. They say that an eel appearing every year used to snatch the finest of his sheep, and Cissamis killed her; and she, appearing to him in a dream, ordered him to bury her. He paying no heed, was destroyed root and branch.

Explanation

οὗτος ἦν πολυθρέμματος· τούτῳ φασὶν ἔγχελυν ἐπιφαινομένην κατ’ ἔτος τὸ κάλλιστον τῶν προβάτων ἁρπάζειν, καὶ τὸν Κίσσαμιν ἀνελεῖν αὐτήν· φαινομένην δὲ αὐτῷ κατ’ ὄναρ, κελεῦσαι καταθάψαι αὐτήν· τὸν δὲ μὴ φροντίσαντα, παγγενεὶ ἀπολέσθαι.
