by "Siren" he means not one of the singing maidens, but a winged creature like a bee, as Aristotle says.

Σειρὴν μὲν φίλον ἀγγέλλει, ξεῖνον δὲ μέλισσα

σειρῆνα λέγει οὐ τῶν ᾠδικῶν παρθένων μίαν, ἀλλὰ ζῶον ὑπόπτερον μελίσσῃ ἐοικὸς, ὥς φησιν Ἀριστοτέλης.
