Explanation
the wound formed in the feet from much standing, continually discharging matter. For Cheiron, shot by Heracles when he engaged in battle with the Centaurs, had an incurable wound about his foot, by which he died. Whence the proverb is used of incurable wounds.

Explanation
τὸ ἀπὸ πολλῆς στάσεως ἐν τοῖς ποσὶ γινόμενον τραῦμα, καὶ διηνεκῶς ἰχῶρας ἐκκρίνον. Τοξευθεὶς γὰρ ὑπὸ Ἡρακλέους ὁ Χείρων, μάχην πρὸς Κενταύρους ἐνστησαμένου, ἀνίατον ἔσχεν ἕλκος περὶ τὸν πόδα· δι’ οὑ καὶ ἀπέθανεν. Ὅθεν ἡ παροιμία ἐπὶ τῶν ἀνιάτων προήχθη τραυμάτων.
