If the lion's skin won't reach, sew on the fox's
English
Proverb
If the lion's skin won't reach, sew on the fox's
Explanation
if you cannot harm openly, use cunning. If what is set before you cannot be accomplished by force, let what is lacking be brought to pass by stratagem and craft. The proverb is applied to cases where one must use wisdom rather than strength, as the poet says, "Either by guile or by force; either openly or in secret."
Greek
Proverb
Explanation
