Explanation

the buskin is a kind of shoe that fits both right and left foot; whence the Athenians called Theramenes, of the Thirty Tyrants, "Buskin." The proverb is said of those who are constantly turning this way and that.

Εὐμεταβολώτερος κοθόρνου

Explanation

κόθορνός ἐστιν ὑποδήματος εἶδος ἐφαρμόζοντος καὶ δεξιῷ καὶ ἀριστερῷ ποδί· ὅθεν καὶ Θηραμένην, τὸν ἐπὶ τῶν λ’, κόθορνον ἐκάλουν οἱ Ἀθηναῖοι. Ἐπὶ τῶν στρεφομένων οὖν συνεχῶς ἡ παροιμία εἴρηται.
