Explanation
they say that Heracles, having instituted the Olympic games, and trusting his own strength, in the second penteteric contest boxed against two and was beaten. Some say these were Laius and Pherandros; others, Cteatos and Eurytos.

Οὐδὲ Ἡρακλῆς πρὸς δύο
Explanation
φασὶν Ἡρακλέα θέντα τὸν Ὀλυμπιακὸν ἀγῶνα, πιστεύσαντά τε τῇ ἑαυτοῦ δυνάμει, τῇ δευτέρᾳ πενταετηρίδι πρὸς δύο πυκτεύσαντα ἡττηθῆναι. Λέγουσι δὲ τούτους εἶναι οἱ μὲν Λάϊον καὶ Φέρανδρον· οἱ δὲ Κτέατον καὶ Εὔρυτον.
